# Updates, Privacy and Troubleshooting

> Keep the LoWisa IDE up to date, understand what stays on your machine, and fix the most common problems: file access, the microphone, model errors and large projects.

Most problems in the IDE have a quick fix. Start here, and if you are still stuck, use **Help → Contact Support** or write to support@lowisa.dev.

## Updates

LoWisa downloads updates in the background and applies them when you click **Restart to update**. To check now, choose **Help → Check for Updates**. Every release is listed in the [changelog](/changelog/).

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| "Access denied" when reading a file | LoWisa blocks credential folders (such as `.ssh` and `.aws`) and paths outside your home and workspace. Open the folder with **File → Open Folder** to grant access. |
| The microphone does not work | Allow microphone access for LoWisa in your system settings. If the message says a key is missing, voice input needs an OpenAI or Groq key; you can always type instead. |
| No reply, or a model error | Check the line under the model list in the chat panel. LoWisa shows the real error instead of switching you to another model; see [Models and API keys](/help/ide-models-and-keys/). |
| Out of credits | Choose a plan or a top-up, or press **I already subscribed** and enter the email you subscribed with. |

## What stays on your machine

- Your project stays on your computer. When you ask the tutor something, only what that request needs is sent to the model.
- API keys you add are kept in your operating system keychain.
- If LoWisa hits an error, a report with the error message, the app version and your operating system is sent to LoWisa so it can be fixed. It does not contain your code.

### How do I update the LoWisa IDE?
