Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the LoWisa desktop application, the LoWisa mobile app and the LoWisa managed services. By downloading LoWisa, subscribing, or taking part in its community spaces, you agree to them. Written to be read, not skimmed past.

1.License to use the software

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the LoWisa desktop application for learning and building software. The application's source code is made available under the MIT License; the managed services behind it (credit backend, model routing, account infrastructure) are proprietary and provided as a service under these terms.

2.Subscriptions and billing

Plans. LoWisa offers two managed plans, both including AI access with no API key: Starter is $8/month with 200 credits included, and Plus is $11/month with 500 credits included. The same two plans are sold inside the phone app through Google Play and the Apple App Store, priced in your local currency by the store. BYOK (bring your own key) is a $10/month platform subscription where you connect your own AI provider account.
Payments. Billing is handled by our payment provider, Polar. Polar's own terms apply to payment processing. Purchases made inside the LoWisa mobile app on Android are billed through Google Play, and purchases made inside the app on iOS are billed through the Apple App Store; each store's own terms apply to purchases made through it. Use of the iOS app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled.
Cancellation. You may cancel at any time through the app, Polar's customer portal, or — for store purchases — your Google Play or Apple Account subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then. We do not offer partial-month refunds except where required by law.

3.Credits

Managed subscriptions include the credits of your plan in each monthly billing cycle, 200 with Starter and 500 with Plus (a credit is one cent of AI, billed at exact provider cost), granted when each monthly payment is confirmed. Free credits are awarded once, when LoWisa is first installed, and are not renewed.
Credits reset each billing cycle. Unused monthly credits and unused top-up credits do not roll over - your balance is set to the credits included in your plan at the start of each new cycle.
Separately purchased top-up credits are consumed after monthly credits are exhausted.
Credits have no cash value, are not redeemable for money, and are tied to your account.

4.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

abuse, overload, or attempt to circumvent metering, rate limits, or access controls of the managed service;
reverse-engineer, probe, or attempt to extract the internals of the managed service or its model routing;
resell, sublicense, or share managed AI access with people outside your subscription;
use LoWisa to generate malware or to engage in unlawful activity.

We may suspend accounts that violate these rules, normally after contacting you first unless the abuse is ongoing.

5.Community: cohorts, chats and Clock it

The LoWisa mobile app has community spaces: cohorts (learning groups with channels, direct messages, contests and the day's work), chats between members, and Clock it, the collective AI knowledge base. They exist for one purpose: to support collective learning and shared goals - people learning the same things helping each other get further, faster. They are not a general-purpose social network, a marketplace, or a place to promote things unrelated to learning.

What belongs there. Lessons, questions, answers, results, what worked and what did not, encouragement, and knowledge others can use. Clock it accepts posts that teach something about AI; a gate reads each post before it lands and turns away what is not knowledge.
Conduct. Be honest and respectful. Do not harass, threaten, demean or discriminate; do not post spam, advertising, scams, sexual content, content that is illegal or infringes someone's rights, or other people's private information. Do not impersonate anyone. Keep the shared goal in view: the space belongs to the people learning in it.
Your profile. You may add a picture, an occupation, a few lines about yourself, a website, a link to what you are building and your social handles. They are visible to everyone who can see your posts. A display name is letters and numbers only; symbols are removed, so nothing can be typed that looks like a verification mark. The blue mark beside a name is set by LoWisa for accounts with an active subscription and cannot be added, bought or transferred by a user.
Moderation. Cohort creators and the admins they appoint run their cohorts: they set the work, pin messages, remove content, and may remove or ban members. Anyone can report a Clock it post; a post reported by several independent learners is hidden. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules, normally after contacting you first unless the abuse is ongoing.
Public means public. Public cohorts and Clock it are visible to every LoWisa learner, and a Clock it post has a public web page that can be shared. Private cohorts and direct messages are visible to their participants. Do not post anything you would not want seen.
Your content stays yours. You keep ownership of what you post and grant LoWisa the licence needed to store, display and share it within the app and its public pages, and to keep the knowledge base working - for example ranking a post by how many readers said they learned from it. Deleting your account removes your profile, your posts and your memberships, as described in the Privacy Policy.

6.AI output

LoWisa's tutor is powered by large language models. Model output can be wrong, incomplete, or misleading. Explanations may contain errors, and generated code may have bugs or security flaws. You are responsible for reviewing, testing, and understanding any code you ship - which is, in fact, the entire point of LoWisa. AI output is provided for educational and assistive purposes and is not professional advice.

7.Running code and installing packages on your device

LoWisa is a hands-on learning environment. As part of tutoring, LoWisa and its tutor run commands, execute code, and install software packages and dependencies on your device (for example npm install, pip install, running your programs and tests, and using tools such as git) - inside your open project workspace. This is normal and expected. Ordinary, non-destructive commands run without interrupting the lesson; genuinely destructive or system-dangerous operations (for example recursively deleting outside your project, formatting a disk, discarding your git history, escalating privileges, or piping downloads into a shell) pause for your explicit approval before they run. Third-party packages you install are governed by their own licences and may themselves contain bugs or vulnerabilities; you are responsible for what you choose to install and run, and we recommend using LoWisa on a device where that is acceptable.

8.Your content

Your code, projects, and chat history remain yours. We claim no ownership over anything you create with LoWisa. Content you send to the tutor is transmitted to AI model providers to generate responses, as described in our Privacy Policy.

9.Warranty disclaimer

LoWisa is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software or service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate. Nothing in this section excludes consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including the Australian Consumer Law.

10.Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LoWisa and its contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages - including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption - arising from your use of the software or service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, it is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service or refunding the amount paid for it.

11.Termination

You may stop using LoWisa and cancel your subscription at any time. We may terminate or suspend access for material breach of these terms. On termination, your license to the managed service ends; your local code, projects, and chat history remain on your machine and are unaffected.

12.Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Disputes will be handled in the courts of Australia, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your place of residence provides otherwise.

13.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, give notice through the app or by email before they take effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
